One of our cats (now about 12 years old) was rescued when he was around 2. The breeder who rescued him and rehomed him to us, had a hell of a time finding somone to take him on, with an unknown but suspected abusive start to life, he would take on any one he met with ferocity, anger and agressivness not a hand, arm foot leg or face safe from his attack.
Detirmined to let this boy feel love, we took him home to give him the chance he so desperately needed.
The first week by and there was not much change in him, he would sit on top of the fridge and take pot shots at anyone walking past, leaving many friends with nasty scratches accross their heads and faces. But after a little while he ventured quite close to me whilst in the lounge watching TV. Touching him gently and then ignoring him as he got agitated, day by day the touch became a short pat, then the short pat, a longer one, then the breakthrough, the sit on lap and smooch face to face.
These days in his senior years, he has become a much loved family pet, who returns this love many times over. He is highly tolerant, playful and loving to boot. He still has a moment every now and again where we could declare him a monster, but these times are few and far between.
